Neurosurgeon

Dr. Yaw Sarpong earned a medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, finished residency training in neurosurgery at University of Washington & Affiliated Hospitals and University of Missouri, and completed fellowship training in BioDesign and BioInnovation at University of Missouri.

Dr. Sarpong specializes in open and minimally invasive treatment of spinal diseases and treatment of spinal and intracranial masses. He is also specialized in management and treatment of traumatic brain injuries as well as surgical management and treatment of hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes. He has served as the neurosurgical representative for the state of Oregon Trauma Board.

Dr. Sarpong was inspired to become a neurosurgeon because of his love of medicine and science and the ability to help people shape their lives. As a child in his native country of Ghana, he witnessed physicians providing excellent care and comfort to their patients which helped them change their lives for the better. That experience led to his current commitment to patient care, treating patients as though they are members of his family.

In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, walking their dogs, watching movies, traveling and exercising. He and his wife have a passion for philanthropic work and are in the process of establishing organizations in Ghana that will provide access to health care and education for all.
